Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October, 1964 was a prominent American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. Harris is the first female vice-president and highest-ranking female official of U.S. History, as well the first African American and second Asian American vice president. As a member the Democratic Party, she was the former attorney general of California in 2011-2017 and an United States senator representing California in 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Following her first job as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In the following years, she was the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003 she was elected as the city's district attorney. She was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010, and reelected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator, Harris advocated for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and cannabis legalization as a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. She was praised nationally for her pointed questioning of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings, including Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and was accused of assault on a woman.
